Agreed, it certainly is important. Of course you hit the nail on the head–it isn’t the only factor. The problem lies in extremes…either putting too much weight on metadata (which is not going to get you very far), and ignoring them all together. In the end scheme of things, EVERY factor is a crucial part of the overall strategy.

Hi John,

I think you make some very good points, especially #2-#6. However, #1 I disagree with. People who market themselves as SEO’s who specialize in a niche really don’t do any better than other SEOs and sometimes they are worse because they are mass utilizing keywords and strategies…As for #7, two things:

1. A reputable SEO company will not offer a guarantee. That is unethical.
2. You cannot pay a company after the contract is completed. Do you go to a car lot and get a Mercedes for free…only to pay them later?

Food for thought.
